Sherwood Young Artists and DofE

Sherwood Young Artists have been supporting the Duke Of Edinburgh Awards since we started back in 2012. We have had many fantastic volunteers and many of the children that attend our face-to-face Children's Art Classes in Nottingham, use it as evidence for the 'skill' requirement for the Bronze and Silver DofE Awards.

During the pandemic I started making video tutorials for our students as they couldn't attend the classes. It quickly occurred to me, that through the internet, I could help lots more children, not only in Nottingham, but right across the UK, to develop their Art skills. My daughter and her friends were doing their Bronze DofE Award at the time and were struggling to find things to do for their Skills section......I had a light bulb moment and our DofE online Art Courses were created.
In 2020 I devised two on-line learning courses to assist in gaining evidence for a DofE 'skills' section which are still available and very popular today. In addition to these, and by request from returning participants, I have created a brand new course for Autumn 2022 with lots more lovely art tutorials on offer.

Sherwood Young Artists was officially awarded the 'DofE Approved Activity Provider' Licence in March 2023. Organisation are not required to hold this licence to offer DofE activities. However, participants and DofE leaders can rest assure that organisation that hold this licence are offering quality and suitable DofE activities.

Our three online art courses offer either a 3 month or 6 month learning programme, depending on your requirements. Each course offers pre-recorded video tutorials that can be completed at home at a time that is convenient to you.
Photos of your lovely Artwork can be emailed in and I will be more than happy to provide feedback and then add your photos to our 'Remote Learning Gallery'.
On completion of your course I will complete your Assessor's report via the DofE Assessor's on-line portal.

Sherwood Young Artists was awarded a small grant from the Arts Council during lockdown, to assist in our provision of on-line learning. The Grant money has been used to subsidise our on-line courses, making them accessible and affordable. With the 3 Month course costing you just £1.66 per week and the 6 month course costing just £1.50 per week.

There is no time limits to how long you have access to the courses. I know that life gets very busy and there may be the odd week missed due to holidays, illness etc. So just add this week onto the end.
I also like to think that I can be perfectly reasonable too, so if a piece of work takes you three weeks to complete instead of two, just let me know and we can negotiate leaving a tutorial out as you would have still covered your 3 / 6 Month course.
Please just get in touch via our contacts page if you have any questions.
Look forward to welcoming you onto the DofE Art Skill courses
